We've Moved!

Portland's "Lose the Training Wheels" program, a week-long camp that helps kids with disabilities learn to ride regular bicycles, now has a name and a website of our own! Please link here to Bike First! The Portland, Oregon affiliate of "Lose the Training Wheels."

Registration is now open for 2010 camps!

What are pre-skills and how do I help my child build them?

Pre-skills are the critical capabilities your child needs, without which they would not learn to ride. To be successful, your child needs truncal stability to sit tall on their own, keep their head up, demonstrate endurance and coordination to pedal, be comfortable with "wind in their face" and be able to anticipate turns. In addition to physical therapy, The Children's Mobility Foundation helps schools' adapted PE programs get equipment to build critical pre-skills. CMF is also hosting a monthly Mobility Day to get children prepared for "Lose the Training Wheels." There is also a small but growing group of pediatric private trainers who can work with your child throughout the year.
